Overview

  • Currently, the MPR is valid for 5 years and it is not renewable like the hand-written passport. As such,MRP should be re-issued once the validity is about to expire
  • Please note that a new MRP will be issued in case of MRP reissue.

How to Apply

Step-1: MRP Re-issue Application:

  • Manually filled in MRP Application Form (please click here to find the form).
  • No need to fill in online MRP Application Form.

Step-2: Booking Online Appointment:

  • Without prior appointment, no application will be accepted.
  • Please click here for MRP appointment and ignore any auto generated appointment that may appear on your application form.
  • Also take a print out of the appointment schedule required at the High Commission counter.

Step-3: Submission of MRP related documents:

  • The applicant should come to the High Commission in person along with required documents on the scheduled date and time specified in the online appointment.
  • Need to submit the required documents and pay fee at the counter.
  • An interview may be required prior to the enrolment if any anomaly/anomalies found in the supporting documents. The Passport and Visa wing reserves the right to request for any additional documents at any stage for necessary scrutiny.

Step-4: Biometric Enrolment:

The applicant should keep in mind that actual time for biometric may vary depending upon various factors. Normally you should plan for 1-2 hours to complete the biometric procedure.

  • Applicant’s finger prints, signature on the electronic pad and photograph will be taken at the bio-enrolment booth.
  • During your enrolment you will be provided with a proof copy of your passport information. Please check the accuracy of the information carefully since these will be reflected in your passport. The High Commission shall not be responsible for any such mistakes.
  • The original passport will be verified here and returned to the applicant along with a delivery slip.
  • The applicant should retain the delivery slip carefully without which MRP will not be delivered. If lost, a police report is mandatory to collect the MRP.

Step-5: MRP processing time and Delivery of passport:

MRP Processing Time

  • Normally an MRP is ready for delivery within 40-45 days from the date of enrolment. However, due to police verification and inaccuracy of the information provided by the applicant, it may take a longer time than it is expected.
  • An auto generated delivery date appears on the delivery slip. Please ignore this date of delivery.

How to Collect:

  • Once the passport is received by this High Commission from the DIP/Dhaka, a text message will be sent to applicant to collect the passport.
  • Upon receiving the text, the applicant should come to the High Commission in person in any working day between 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm (Monday-Friday)
  • Applicants are requested to come along with old passport, delivery slip and any other documents if specified by the enrolment official. MRP will be handed over together with the old passport (with necessary observation seal).
  • If applicant doesn’t come and send anybody to collect the Passport in favour of the applicant, it is necessary to send an authrisation of the applicant. Without authorisation with proper signature, no passport will not be delivered.

Documents Required:

  • Manually filled in MRP Re-issue Application Form
  • Original MRP along with a photocopy (page 2-3).
  • Application related to complete changes of applicant's antecedent (i.e Name of applicant/ father/ mother) will not be received
  • In case of reissue, only old MRP photocopies have to be attached with reissue form. In this case applicants' photograph is not required to be atached with it.
1. What are the procedure/steps to apply for an MRP?

The steps to be followed for MRP are as follows:

  • a. Properly fill in the online MRP application form.
  • b. Booking online appointment
  • c. Physical presence in the Passport & Visa Wing of the High Commission on due date and time of the appointment and submit MRP related documents in counter 1.
  • d. Biometric enrollment of the applicant in the room number 4 of the Passport & Visa Wing of the High Commission.
  • e. Carefully checking the Passport information and return it with signing.
  • f. MRP processing and printing
  • g. Delivery of passport.
2. What I need to do in case of partial name change for self/parents/spouse

In case of data correction in the name of  self/parents/spouse, I need to do the following steps:

  • a. Click the link: Data Correction and fill up the form manually. Please mention the information shown in the existing passport and the corrected information.
  • b. Physical presence in the Passport & Visa Wing of Bangladesh High Commission, London.
  • c Submit PSC/JSC/SSC examination certificate or Affidavit from 1st class magistrate of Bangladesh which shows the corrected name.
  • d. Submit amended NID (National Identity Card) or amended Birth certificate (according to Education certificate/Affidavit) which also shows the corrected name.
  • e. Submit one passport-size photograph and original MRP along with a photocopy (page 2-3) with the application.
  • f. Application related to complete change of applicant's antecedent (i.e. Name of applicant/father's name/ mother's name) must not be received.
3. What I need to do in case of full name change for self/parents/spouse.

Application related to complete change of applicant's antecedent (i.e. Name of applicant/father's name/ mother's name) must not be received.

4. What I need to do in case of permanent address change.

In case of full name change of permanent address, I need to do the following steps:

  • a. Click the link: Data Correction and fill up the form manually. Please mention the permanent address shown in the existing passport and the corrected permanent address.
  • b. Submit police verification certificate from Bangladesh.
5. What I need to do in case of date of Birth change.

In case of full name change of date of Birth, I need to do the following steps:

  • a. Click the link: Data Correction and fill up the form manually. Please mention the date of Birth shown in the existing passport and the corrected date of Birth.
  • b. Submit amended NID (national Identity card) or Amended Birth Certificate.
6. What I need to do in case of marital status change.

In case of full name change of marital status, I need to do the following steps:

  • a. Click the link: Data Correction and fill up the form manually. Please mention the information shown in the existing passport and the corrected information.
  • b. Submit marriage/divorce certificate as appropriate.
7. What I need to do in case of profession change.

In case of full name change of profession, I need to do the following steps:

  • a. Click the link: Data Correction and fill up the form manually. Please mention the information shown in the existing passport and the corrected information.
  • b. Submit educational or profession certificate as appropriate.
8. What I need to do in case of passport type change.

In case of full name change of profession, I need to do the following steps:

  • a. Click the link: Data Correction and fill up the form manually. Please mention the information shown in the existing passport and the corrected information.
  • b. Submit approval letter from Ministry of Home affairs (from official to ordinary).
  • c. NOC from competent authority (from ordinary to official).
9. Why can I apply for a passport re-issue?

Currently the MRP is valid for 5 years and it is not renewable like the hand-written passport. So MRP needs to be re-issued once the validity is about to expire or when someone has lost present MRP. In both cases the Information of the previous MRP must remain unchanged.

10. How can I apply for a passport re-issue?

It is necessary to do the following steps in order to apply for MRP re-issue:

  • a) Submit manually filled in MRP re-issue form with recent passport size photograph.
  • b) Original MRP along with a photocopy (page 2-3)
  • c) Physical presence of the applicant in the High Commission.
11. Who can apply for a passport re-issue?

A person who lost MRP or whose MRP is retained in the Home Office or validity of the MRP is about to expire, can apply for a passport re-issue

12. How many days ago before expiring, can I re-issue my passport?

There is no fixed period of time to apply for re-issue an MRP before expiring. It is advised to apply few months ago before expiring.

13. Do I need a prior appointment to apply for MRP?

It is must to have a prior appointment to apply for MRP.

14. What is the application submission and delivery time?

The application is received at the counter between 10.00 am – 1.00 pm (Monday to Thursday) and 10.00 am – 12.30 pm (Friday). The delivery time is 2.30 pm -4.00 pm.

15. I live in Ireland and have handwritten passport. How can I re-issue my passport and have an MRP?

With the commencement of MRP, handwritten passport could not be renewed rather a new MRP needs to be issued against it. As biometrics is required for MRP, the applicant must come to London to do so or need to avail consular surgery in Ireland.

16. We live in Ireland and need to reissue MRP. How

You may send by Post reissue application, photocopy of existing MR, bank draft of MRP fee and separately postal charge to send the Passport back. Alternatively, you can avail the consular surgery facilities in Ireland.

17. Shall the photo of applicant for MRP needs to be attested as mentioned in application form?

For applicant applying in the UK, there is no need to attest the photos.

18. I cannot escape payment while filling up the MRP form.

Please select United Kingdom in ‘Applying In’ slot then you can escape payment.

19. If a person is invalid /disabled/extremely elder, does S/he need to come to High Commission for applying an MRP?

If an applicant is physically disabled and cannot come to High Commission, a letter mentioning disability of the applicant should be obtained from the NHS/Hospital. An extra photo (not stapled, not glued) is also required for photo scanning.

20. My handwritten passport has expired long time ago. I have a British Passport. How can I have a new Bangladesh Passport against the old passport?

In case of getting a new Bangladesh Passport against an old hand written passport, I need to ensure the following steps:

  • (a) The applicant needs to face an interview at the High Commission.
  • (b) The applicant needs to submit the following documents:
    • i. Parents’ Bangladeshi passports.
    • ii. Applicant’s Birth Certificate (where parents’ names are included).
    • iii. Applicant's UK Police Clearance Certificate (CRB/DBS check) duly attested by Foreign and Commonwealth office (FCO) UK.
    • iv. Applicant’s British passport.
21. My handwritten Passport/MRP is in Home Office. How can I get a new one against it?

In case of getting a new passport against a passport retained in Home office, I need to do the following steps:

  • a) The applicant needs to face an interview at the High Commission.
  • b) Police certificate from local police station against the lost passport (if possible).
  • c) Photocopy of old passport (page 1-7).
  • d) An original Home Office letter mentioning the name and passport number of the applicant/copy of passport certified by the Home Office (in case the passport is retained by the Home office).
  • e) Digital Bangladeshi Birth Certificate.
22. My passport is lost by Mail. I need to have new passport. What is the procedure to get a new passport?

In case of getting a new Bangladesh Passport against a lost passport, I need to ensure the following steps:

  • (a) The applicant needs to face an interview at the High Commission.
  • (b) The applicant needs to submit the following documents:
    • i. The applicant needs to face an interview at the High Commission.
    • ii. Police certificate from local police station against the lost passport (if possible).
    • iii. Photocopy of old passport (page 1-7).
    • iv. Digital Bangladeshi Birth Certificate.
23. I have a new born baby and both the parents/one of parents have British Passport. We have /one of us have valid/expired Bangladeshi passport. How can we have a Bangladeshi passport for the new born?

In case of getting a new Bangladesh Passport for the new born baby, I need to ensure the following steps:

  • (a) Presence of the child at the High Commission.
  • (b) The applicant needs to submit the following documents:
    • i. Parents’ Bangladeshi original passports and marriage certificate with photocopy.
    • ii. Child's detailed Birth Certificate (where parents’ names and details are shown).
    • iii. An extra photo (not glued, not stapled) for photo scanning (below 6 years).
24. My son/daughter is second/third generation of Bangladeshi origin. As parent, we have old Bangladeshi Passport or we do not have any BD passport but have NVR in British Passport. How can we have MRP for my son/daughter?

In case of getting a new Bangladesh Passport for the new born baby, I need to ensure the following steps:

  • (a) The applicant needs to face an interview at the High Commission.
  • (b) The applicant needs to submit the following documents:
    • i. Parents’ Bangladeshi passports.
    • ii. Applicant’s Birth Certificate (where parents’ names are included).

25. If anyone’s name was endorsed in mother’s passport, Should they need to apply for separate MRP?
